We are in the embrace of the Great Mother energy still, with Her abundance and generosity. Sturgeon Moon because this was the time of year when the Great Lakes filled with Sturgeon, an ancient, giant fish species that go back 136 million years or so. The Lake Sturgeons are rare today, due to overfishing. Some other names for this moon are Corn Moon(Algonquin, Ojibwe), Harvest Moon (Dakota), and Ricing Moon (Anishinaabe). This Moon signifies a time of ripening and harvesting.
